Meet outside the stores. These are meeting points only; M Gear has no partnership with Starbucks.

Rental periods are counted by calendar day, including both the handover and return dates. For example, a Saturday morning handover and Sunday afternoon return is a two-day rental.
Handover and return
We arrange handover and return at agreed locations in Tokyo. You can choose different locations for each, and we’ll discuss the details with you.
Standard handover and return hours are 9:00–18:00 JST, by appointment. Please ask about arrangements outside these hours.
Planning an early start or a late-night ride? Let us know, and we’ll discuss a handover time that works with your plans.
Hotel handover and return require the hotel’s permission; we can help coordinate.
Delivery charges are shown with your rental total before you send your rental request. If accommodating a special request requires an additional charge, we’ll agree it with you before payment.
Pedals and included equipment
Choose flat pedals, Shimano SPD-SL pedals, or no rental pedals. Flat and SPD-SL pedals are available at no additional charge. Choose flat pedals if you have not used cycling shoes and clipless pedals before. Shimano SPD-SL pedals are only for riders with experience using cycling shoes and clipless pedals. If you would prefer to use your own pedals, let us know when booking.
Lights and a bell are included for riding on public roads in Tokyo, together with a lock for parking. Please use the lights when riding at night.
A complimentary helmet is available in Japan size M/L (57–60 cm head circumference). Please check that this size suits you.
Additional equipment
You can add cycling shoes, aero bars, an Insta360 camera and other available equipment to your booking. Available options and their prices are shown in the booking form. Shimano TR5 shoes are only for riders with prior experience using cycling shoes.
Bike fit and riding plans
Our Tarmac SL8 is size 54, with a recommended rider height of approximately 170–175 cm (67–69 in / 5′7″–5′9″). Fit also depends on your proportions and riding preferences—if you’re outside this range, please contact us to discuss suitability.
Please include your height when booking. If you know your usual bike size, you can include that too.
Training rides and competition use are welcome. Tell us about your plans and any equipment preferences when booking.
Booking and payment
Review your rental details and total price, then send your rental request. We’ll check availability and contact you to agree the rental details and price.
Any additional charges for special requests will be agreed with you before payment. Once the details are agreed, we’ll send you a payment link. Your booking is confirmed once we receive payment.
Changes and cancellations
For standard cancellations, no cancellation fee applies at least 48 hours before the agreed handover time. Cancellations between 24 and 48 hours incur a 50% charge; cancellations within 24 hours incur a 100% charge.
If rain is forecast for your planned ride during the rental period, you can cancel or reschedule without a cancellation fee by the end of the day before your rental starts.
We’ll review the forecast at 17:00 on the day before your rental starts to help you decide.
From the rental start date, standard cancellation charges apply, including cancellations due to ordinary rain.
If we need to cancel your rental before handover because severe weather makes handover or riding unsafe, you’ll receive a full refund.
Once the bike has been handed over, weather-related refunds are generally unavailable. All deadlines are in Japan Standard Time.
Security deposit and identification
A ¥100,000 security deposit is required separately from your rental payment. This is arranged as a temporary hold on your card shortly before handover and released after return and inspection, subject to any agreed charges.
Please bring an original government-issued photo ID, such as your passport or driving licence, to handover.
Carbon equipment and damage responsibility
Our Tarmac SL8 has a carbon frame, fork and carbon wheels. A crash or significant impact can cause structural damage that is not visible from the outside. Please stop riding and contact us if this happens.
For safety, damaged carbon components may require replacement rather than repair. Where you are responsible for the damage, charges may include specialist inspection, necessary repairs or replacement, assembly and transport, together with loss-of-use charges as set out in the rental terms.
These costs can amount to several hundred thousand yen. If the entire bike must be replaced, the cost may reach approximately ¥800,000, with additional restoration and loss-of-use costs where applicable. The ¥100,000 security deposit is not a limit on liability.
Routine wear of tyres, brake pads and drivetrain components is covered by the rental fee. Crash damage is not.
